James Busby carded a fantastic final round of 66 to win the first stage of European Tour Qualifying School at Chart Hills GC in Kent, one of a number of current PGA EuroPro Tour players to make it through to the second stage.
Busby (pictured) sits in eighth spot on the EuroPro Tour Order of Merit and will go into the final event of the year at Fairmont St Andrews in October with great confidence after securing a two stroke victory at 16 under par to reach November’s second stage.
Busby’s closest competitor to Busby in Kent was Matthew Balding, who appeared on the EuroPro Tour in 2008. Oliver Turnill finished in fourth spot at seven under and was one of ten players from the EuroPro Tour to take one of the 24 places on offer – Ben Jones, James Ruebotham, Anthony Tarchetti, Mark Laskey, Matthew Ford, Kevin Harper and Francis McGuirk completing the list.
At Dundonald Links in Scotland, Jamie Elson topped a group of 11 players from the EuroPro Tour to claim one of the 24 places on offer. Elson finished in second spot ahead of Tim Dykes, Chris Kelly, Louis De Jager, Sean Doherty, Ricky Lee, Mark Kerr, Lee Harper, Daniel Belch, Ian Keenan and Ian Ridgeway.
Stage B begins on Tuesday 22 September at courses in England, France, Italy and Germany, with a number of EuroPro Tour players in action.
