Clipper Logistics Championship - Preview

August 5th, 2014

The PGA EuroPro Tour returns to Moor Allerton Golf Club for the second Clipper Logistics Championship this Wednesday-Friday.

The event made its debut on Europe’s third-tier tour last September and 156 of the UK and Ireland’s best pros will tee it up in this year’s event, which sees the winner awarded £10,000 from a £40,000 prize fund.

Tee Times: Round One | Round Two

Last year Teignmouth man Billy Hemstock beat Pontefract’s Daniel Gavins in a play-off after a gripping final round and Hemstock is back to defend his title at Moor Allerton this week.

Also competing is 2013 Amateur Champion Garrick Porteous, who won his first professional event on PGA EuroPro Tour at The Astbury in June just six weeks after relinquishing his amateur status once he had competed in The Masters at Augusta.

The PGA EuroPro Tour is Europe’s leading development tour and an official satellite of the European Tour. Making up part of the third tier of golf, previous EuroPro players have gone on to win majors and compete in the Ryder Cup.

Already 2014 has seen two EuroPro members celebrate wins on the Challenge Tour. They were 2013 Order of Merit winner Oliver Farr and William Harrold, who won two of the first three EuroPro events of the summer before winning on Europe’s second tier in Belgium.

The top five golfers at the end of the season earn Challenge Tour categories for 2015, and a number of Yorkshire golfers are expecting to be in contention to progress to the next level of professional golf come the end of the season.

Daniel Godding, Director of Operations at the PGA EuroPro Tour, said: “The Tour made its debut at Moor Allerton last year and we were very impressed with every aspect of the tournament there.

“We are delighted to be able to return to the course for the second Clipper Logistics Championship. The course is one of the best in the north and we received superb support at Moor Allerton last year.”
