Colsaerts nicks second Challenge Tour win - Busby starts well at Tour School

September 16th, 2009

Ex-PGA EuroPro Tour player Nicholas Colsaerts secured his second win on the 2009 Challenge Tour to all but secure his European Tour card for 2010.

The 26 year-old Belgian appeared in several EuroPro Tour events in 2002 and 2008 and followed his first professional victory in August with a four stroke win at the Dutch Futures tournament at the GC Houtrak in Halfweg, Holland.

Colsaerts now sits in third spot in the Challenge Tour Order of Merit with six events to come, starting with this week’s lucrative Kazakhstan Open. Colsaerts takes his place in the €64,000 first prize event alongside 2009 PGA EuroPro Tour event winner Steve Surry and tour graduates Lloyd Kennedy, John Parry, Robert Steele and Simon Thornton.

Meanwhile, a number of EuroPro Tour regulars have started well in Section A of the First Qualifying Stage of The European Tour Qualifying School. James Busby (pictured) – currently in eighth spot on the EuroPro Tour Order of Merit – leads by two strokes at five under par after the opening round at Chart Hills GC in Kent, where 21 places are up for grabs for Stage Two. Matthew Ford, Darryn Lloyd, Anthony Tarchetti, Oliver Turnill, Mark Laskey and Francis McGuirk are all under par after the first day.

At Dundonald Links in Scotland, Louis De Jager and Jamie Elson are tied in second place after the opening round, where 20 spots are available. Barrie Trainor, Daniel Belch, Ricky Lee, Ian Keenan, Steven Mackie, Barry Hume and Sean Doherty are all in the mix after the opening round. The final day at all four venues – with Denmark and Portugal also hosting tournaments – is Friday September 18.
