A SECOND successive five-under-par round of 67 gave Simon Hurd the lead going in to the final day of The Peugeot Classic at Morley Hayes.
Challenge Tour player Hurd (Pinheros Altos) shot five birdies, one eagle and two bogeys but was disappointed to miss a number of chances to extend his lead on the back nine.
Denny Lucas is a single shot behind with a total score of 135 (nine-under-par) after two bogeys took the shine off eight birdies in a round of 66 (six-under-par).
Joining Lucas is Colin Mitchell (A Proctor Group /Rustington) who shot a 67 with six birdies and a bogey.
But a whole host of players will still fancy their chances of claiming the £10,000 top prize as Matthew Griffiths (Woodlake Park) and Tim Rice (Limerick) are on eight-under-par and Sean Whiffin (Enfield), Scott Standing (Nazeing) and Order of Merit leader Lee Slattery (Formby Hall G&CC) are within touching distance on seven-under-par.
54 players made the cut, which was set at two-under-par.
