The second event of the season will see the PGA EuroPro Tour visit Telford Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort for the very first time, thanks to our partnership with QHotels Collection.
The tour thoroughly enjoyed the Matchroom Tour Championship that was held at Slaley Hall last October, which is something that influenced the partnership.
The Ignis Sports Management Championship will take place from June 1-3.
As you would expect from a golf course that is worthy of hosting PGA EuroPro Tour professionals, there is plentiful danger scattered across the grounds at Telford Hotel & Golf Resort.
With several water hazards present, accuracy from both the tee and approach shots will be fundamentally important for the eventual champion.
Measuring 6,741 yards, the resort opened in 1976 and it has since matured into one of the finest parkland courses within the Shropshire area.
The signature hole is the par-4 8th, which only measures 382 yards and thus, should be scoreable providing the players are in position.
Having noted that, the tee shot is demanding and members of the tour will be striking to a fairway that is heavily guarded by surrounding bunkers.
From there, an approach must avoid the water that guards the green, although the putting surface is accessible.
One obvious standout of Telford is the surreal scenery that is on offer from all corners of the course.
With spectacular vistas of the Severn Valley and Ironbridge Gorge, Telford has created the ultimate environment for a serene golfing experience.
Accuracy off the tee is the most vital aspect to fare well at Telford, and we should see plenty of competition as the tournament progresses.
Matt Robbins, Head of Golf & Leisure at Telford Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort, cannot wait to have professional golf introduced to the site.
“I am extremely excited to welcome the PGA EuroPro Tour. This event is a pinnacle moment for the golf course, and for me personally.
“I am looking forward to showcasing our championship course and sharing my teams’ enthusiasm and their presentation of the golf course.”
Dan Godding, CEO of the PGA EuroPro Tour, is ecstatic about the partnership and the wonderful venues the tour will be visiting as a consequence.
“Ever since we brokered this relationship with Keith Pickard and everyone at QHotels Collection, we have been very excited about experiencing their first-class facilities.
“The Matchroom Tour Championship was such a success last year at the wonderful Slaley Hall, we know that each visit to a QHotels venue will be dipped in that same level of quality.”
Due to the partnership brokered at the start of the calendar year between the PGA EuroPro Tour and QHotels Collection, three events will be hosted by the hotel chain.
Telford are introduced into the set-up for the very first time, although the tour will be returning to Slaley Hall midway through the season.
Whilst we may not have visited yet, we understand the quality that is associated with QHotels’ golfing facilities, and we are excited to visit Telford for the first time.
Ignis Sports Management are sponsoring the second tournament of the season, and with several of their golfers playing on the EuroPro Tour, they will be invested from the off.
The management company ensure that their golfers have both financial and emotional support in abundance, which is crucial when trying to carve a career as a professional sportsperson.
Through the help of Simon Dyson and Dan Whittaker, Peter Jones, CEO of the company, has built an overwhelmingly strong team to help build success for his clients.
James Newton, Callum Blinkhorn, Rhys Nevin and Tom Broxup are all names that you should keep a close eye on as the season progresses.
As always, spectator entry is free and we highly encourage attendance throughout the three days.
The PGA EuroPro Tour is delighted to welcome Telford Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort into the seasonal rotation, and we look forward to the excellent test that will be prepared.
