Steve Surry’s fine summer continued on the Challenge Tour this weekend as he recorded his third top-ten finish on Europe’s second tier Tour.
Surry (Cumberwell Park, pictured) dropped down to third from first in the EuroPro Tour Order of Merit behind Daniel Brooks (Mill Hill) and Jack Doherty (North Gailes) who finished second and third respectively at The Pandora 2009 Open at Burhill Golf Club on Saturday.
At the same time, Surry was in action in the Scottish Hydro Challenge at Macdonald Spey Valley Golf Club in Aviemore but struggling ahead of the final round in 47th spot at five over par. But he responded on Sunday with the lowest round of the tournament, an eagle and five birdies for a course record seven under par 64 to finish in a six-way tie for sixth place.
Alongside Surry in sixth spot were two more EuroPro players – James Ruebotham (Welwyn Garden City GC) and Scott Jamieson. Ruebotham was tied for second spot going into the final round but was unable to build on rounds of 71, 69 and 68, while Jamieson’s steady tournament ended with a level par round.
The result moves Surry into the top 40 on the Challenge Tour and he’ll have a chance to build on that at the SK Golf Challenge in Finland which begins on Thursday.
