Evans leads as two men hit holes-in-one

August 10th, 2011

GARETH EVANS holds a one-shot lead at the Lingfield Park Championship 2011 on a day that included two golfers making holes-in-one.

Evans (Crow Nest Park) bogeyed the first but birdies at the seventh, eighth, 11th, 16th and 17th left him on four-under (67) and in front for the £10,000 top prize.

There had been a sensational start to the tenth EuroPro Tour event of the season as two players made holes-in-one at the 137-yard par-three sixth.
Daniel Wardrop (Didsbury, Manchester) achieved perfection as his hole-in-one came in an inconsistent round.

His best performance of the season came at Wensum Valley, Norfolk where he finished in tied eighth but his effort today included a run from the fifth to the ninth of triple-bogey, eagle, par, bogey and birdie.

However, Wardrop ended the round strongly with birdies in three of the last four holes to end on three-under (68).

George Parker (The London Club) had played in seven events this season but failed to make the cut at any of them but his perfect shot at the sixth gave him a chance of ending that record his week.

He made a stunning start with three successive birdies and an eagle at the sixth and was a one-time leader before a poor back nine where he dropped six shots left him on one-over (72).

Neil Chaudhuri enjoyed a flawless round in his score of 68 (-3) and was also joined on the same score by Hendon’s Luke Goddard, a runner-up last week at Formby Hall in Merseyside.

With Order of Merit leader Graeme Clark a late withdrawal from the action, it has given Chris Hanson (Woodsome Hall, Huddersfield) a great opportunity to reclaim top spot.

He had a mixed opening day and ended on one-over (72) after five birdies and six bogeys.

All the action is being filmed and Matchroom Sport will produce a two-hour highlights package, which will be shown on Sky Sports on Wednesday, August 24.
