ROSS FISHER holds a two-stroke lead following the opening round of The PartyPoker.com Classic.
Fisher, a graduate of the recent Sky Sports Qualifying School, dropped just one shot on his way to carding a four-under-par 68 in the first round at Wensum Valley.
The Wentworth golfer was among the early groups to tee off at the Norfolk course, with winds picking up during the day to ensure a tough test for all players.
“It’s going very well so far,” said Fisher, who is playing in his first event on the PGA EuroPro Tour.
“We may have had the best of the weather, going out at 6.50am, because the wind picked up a little as the day went on.
“I was delighted to have played well today – hopefully I can keep it up for the rest of the week.”
Fisher sits two strokes clear of Guy Woodman, Australian Daniel Gaunt and local favourite Andrew Marshall – the European Tour member and sponsors’ invitation to the event – who carded a two-under-par 70.
A further four players hit 71, with 12 on level par going into Thursday’s second round.
