The start of the first day of the latest event on the PGA EuroPro Tour has been delayed by more than two hours.
Overnight rain has left part of the Formby Hall Golf Club near Liverpool waterlogged, although play is scheduled to start at 9.45am.
A spokesman from the PGA said: “We have had a two and a quarter hour delay.
“We were due to start at 7.30am but because of the waterlogged surface from overnight we are just about to tee off at 9.45am.
“We probably won’t finish the first round today and will have to go into the early part of tomorrow and it will be the same for the second round.”
The competition in Merseyside is the ninth of the PGA EuroPro Tour season and a strong field has been assembled with each of the top eight players in the 2010 Order of Merit taking part.
That means Australian Daniel Gaunt, who is more than £7,000 ahead at the top of the money list, is back in action after gaining a recent success at the English Challenge in Stoke-by-Nayland, Essex on the Challenge Tour.
Victory in that event gives him an automatic one-year exemption on the Challenge Tour so if he finishes in the top five of the PGA EuroPro Tour Order of Merit, as he is expected to do, then the man sixth on the money list will also advance to next season’s Challenge Tour.
