The final stage of European Tour Qualifying finished on Tuesday with four former EuroPro Tour players making it into the top 30 and earning their European Tour cards.
Michael Hoey (8th) and Chris Doak (=15th) both played on the Tour between 2002 and 2004, while Inder van Weerelt, a winner on the Tour in 2004 (pictured), finished tied in 20th spot. John Mellor (=24th) also made the cut after six rounds at the PGA Golf de Catalunya’s red and green courses in Girona, Spain.
Players who finished outside the top 32 of the 73 players to in the final two rounds earn category 14 status on the European Tour and category seven on the Challenge Tour. Richard McEvoy (=33rd), Michael McGeady (=33rd) and James Morrison (=43rd) are among the former Tour players to make that group and are joined by this year’s ninth place finisher in the Order of Merit Simon Thornton and former Amateur world number one Jamie Moul who played seven events on this year’s Tour.
