Noel Fox has won the Peak Performance Player of the Month award for July on the Ivobank PGA EuroPro Tour.
Fox (MMI) has featured at the top of the Order of Merit right from the start of the Tour and is still there after ten events, with a second place finish at the Whittlebury Park Classic the latest in a string of fine results.
July was the month that Noel rubber-stamped his place at the top of the money list, starting with a second place finish at The Players Club in Bristol, a result he was pretty happy with given that Dale Marmion was six shots clear heading into the final round.
“Dale was so far ahead it was really just a race for second, but that result pretty much sealed a top five spot for the season which was my aim,” said Noel.
The second event in July took the players to Portugal’s Vilamoura resort to tackle the challenging Victoria and Millennium courses in baking conditions in the Algarve. Fox managed to finish in joint fourth spot in Portugal despite the fact he had to play when the sun was at its hottest.
“I didn’t mind the heat to be honest, I played around 12 noon on all three days and it didn’t really affect me,” said the 34 year-old. “Vilamoura has great facilities and the Victoria and Millennium courses are two good tracks so if you can’t enjoy that there’s something wrong with you.
“I played with my Dad in the Pro-Am too which was interesting! He did pretty well actually – he won a prize on the first day.”
Winning clearly runs in the family then as Noel picked up a victory in May at the Faithlegg Championship in Ireland and his second place finish at Whittlebury Park was the third time he’d picked up a runners-up cheque after tying for second at Bovey Castle and in Bristol.
“I’ve played well all year really, even though I didn’t do that well at Q School. As long as you get your putting going you are going to pick up good results – I’d take putting well over hitting well. Now I’ve got the top five sorted I’m just looking for some nice cheques for the rest of the Tour.”
Noel wins a £1,000 voucher to spend on Peak Performance’s golf range at Harrods and a specially embroidered jacket. He will join the four other winners of the Peak Performance Player of the Month award in an 18-hole play-off at the end of the season with a prize purse of £10,000.
Fox begins his eleventh event on the Tour tomorrow (Wednesday) when he plays in the Partypoker.com Players Championship at East Sussex National – live scoring on the event will be available by clicking on the Score Updates link on the homepage.
