TWO players shared the lead after the opening day of The Golf Pages Trophy at Whittlebury G&CC in Northamptonshire.
Scotsman Graham Fox shot seven birdies and an eagle to put himself in a strong position before three bogeys gave him a first round score of six-under-par (66).
Jamie Donaldson (West Sussex) carded the same thanks to eight birdies and two bogeys.
Both players profited from their short game with Donaldson missing only two greens in regulation to boot.
Stuart Manley (Mountain Ash Golf Club) is one of three players a shot behind on 67 after six birdies and a bogey whilst Ely City’s Andrew George managed seven birdies but also a double bogey on the scond.
Matthew Green (Marriott Sprowston Manor) completes the trio after he managed a clean round without any bogeys and including an eagle at the last hole – although he was guilty of missing a number of birdie putts.
Five players are in touching distance on four-under-par (68): Michael Nesbit (Matfen Hall), Colin Mitchell (A Proctor Group/Rustington), Justin Kehoe (Ireland), last week’s winner Denny Lucas (Worksop) and Thomas Peacock, who is currently unattached to a club.
