The HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour season begins this week as Close House plays host to the Lookers Championship, April 26-28.
The tournament marks the first time the EuroPro has shared a course with the European Tour in the same season, as Lee Westwood’s Newcastle home prepares to host the British Masters in the Autumn.
With no Challenge Tour event this week a number of the tour’s leading players from last year are back in action, including last year’s Lookers Championship winner Richard James. The Welshman claimed his first pro win at Close House in July and kicked on the earn promotion to European golf’s second tier, and the EuroPro’s Rookie of the Year award.
Among the other names to look out for is former European Tour man Jamie McLeary, who won EuroPro Q School earlier this month. Ashton Turner made a confident start to his pro career at the tail end of 2016 and will be hoping to make his mark on the EuroPro this summer while the likes of Matthew Cort, Peter Tarver-Jones and 2013 Amateur Champion Garrick Porteous will be looking to add to their EuroPro trophy collection.
Jonathan Greenwood, General Manager & PGA Professional at Close House said: “We have enjoyed two fantastic years of hosting the PGA EuroPro Tour and are excited to be welcoming some of the country’s finest young golfers to Close House again in 2017.
“It is unique to be hosting both the EuroPro and the European Tour in the same year and we look forward to the challenge of hosting two top-class events here at Close House. We know how much the EuroPro’s players have enjoyed the Colt Course and we are pleased to be building on our relationship with the EuroPro into 2017.”
The Lookers Championship begins on Wednesday, April 26 on the Colt Course at Close House. A full field of 156 golfers will play 36 holes before a cut to the leading 50 professionals and ties. The final round will be played on Friday, April 28 after which the winner will take home £10,000 from the £50,000 prize pot.
Spectator entry is free throughout and live scoring can be found at www.europrotour.com. Highlights of the Lookers Championship will air on Sky Sports on Tuesday, May 9.
