Manley (Machynys Peninsula) shared the lead with Martin LeMesurier (South Winchester Golf Club) at the start of play on Thursday (May 24) but a second consecutive 64 saw him take the outright lead by the end of the day.
It is set up for a thrilling final day in the Dartmoor sun with Tyrrell Hatton (Harleyford Golf Club) tied for third with Michael McGeady (McCambridge Duffy) on -9.
A bogey at six didn’t prevent Manley shooting a Second Round of 64, six under par at Bovey Castle. Having seen the Welshman put in another impressive performance LeMesurier, teeing off almost seven hours later, started his second round in superb style. After making par at the first he hit six consecutive birdies to return to tied first.
A double bogey at 10 set LeMesurier back and though he responded immediately with a birdie at 11 and another at 14, he dropped another shot at 16 to fall behind Manley.
McGeady is three shots behind the leader after signing for 63, the day’s best round. The Irishman is nine under par for the tournament following a second round which included seven birdies. Level with him in third is Hatton who shot 64 to ensure he is in contention ahead of the final day’s play.
Tom Haylock (Red Golf Management) completed a round of 66 with a birdie at the last and sits fifth on eight under. Three players are tied for sixth, two shots behind Haylock. Mark Kerr (Marriot Dalmahoy Hotel), Mark Laskey (Brocket Hall) and Stuart Archibald (media-tactics) are all six under par going into the final day.
The cut of the top 50 players plus ties has now been made with all those who have a total score one over par or better proceeding to Friday’s Final Round.
Among those who missed the cut were Wensum Valley winner Dan Seymour (Newbury Golf Centre, 74, 72) and last year’s Order of Merit winner Chris Hanson (Woodsome Hall Golf Club, 75, 70).
The Final Round begins at 7am on Friday (May 25). Live scoring from the event will be available at www.europrotour.com and regular updates will also be posted on the Tour’s official Twitter feed, @PGAEuroProTour.
