The ninth event in the PGA Europro Tour 2003 schedule got underway on Tuesday 1st July at the beautiful Stoke by Nayland Club in Colchester.
Scotland’s Craig Lee (Balmore) leads after the first round after stacking up an incredible eight birdies for a 64 and a new course record. Amazingly, three course records were set during the first day’s play. Australian Alan Patterson was the first to take the honours, beating the existing professional course record of 67 with a six under par score of 66. However, before long the record was trimmed down to 65 after an impressive performance from Ian Keenan (Royal Liverpool), with Craig Lee then carding a fantastic eight under par score of 64 to take the lead.
South African Gerlou Roux is in fourth place with a score of 67, with eleven players tied in fifth position with scores of 68.
Owen Davies, from Brampton Park, is assured of a place in the Tour Championship at the end of the season after getting a hole-in-one on the third! Owen will join Mark Allen and John Wells, who have also had holes-in-one so far this season, in the Peugeot Hole-in-One Challenge: a nearest the pin shoot out where the winner will drive away in a brand new Peugeot 206SW!
