The PGA EuroPro Tour is delighted to announce that Ocean Tee will be the exclusive provider of golf tees for the 2020 season providing a sustainable solution to waste on the golf course.
The tees will be packaged up in recyclable, custom branded matchboxes offering a plastic-free and low-cost solution to showcase the Tour’s commitment to environmental responsibility. The Tour is already providing every player with a water bottle and water refill stations across the golf course.
Ed Sandison, Managing Director of Ocean Tee said, “It is fantastic to see a commitment on this scale from an established and high-profile organisation. It is our mission to build a brand that pushes sustainability to the forefront of the European golf industry and we hope that the PGA EuroPro Tour’s focus on this area is going to lead the way for other clubs, operators, and organisations”.
Dan Godding, Chief Executive Officer of the PGA EuroPro Tour said, “Partnering up with Ocean Tee made perfect sense for us as soon as I got my hands on the tees. We’re doing everything we can on the Tour to improve our carbon footprint. We hope this is the next step to changing the world of sport and its outlook on the environment”.
Bamboo is an ideal material for manufacturing golf tees as it is both strong and flexible, producing a durable tee that is less prone to snapping than traditional hardwood.
In addition, as a grass species, bamboo grows at an astonishing rate with complete stocks replenishing within months after harvesting compared to the decades taken for hardwood forests. As a business, we want to see bamboo overtake plastic and hardwood to become the number 1 material used to manufacture tees.
Ocean Tee donates 25% of corporate profits to charities focused on tackling plastic pollution and protecting the health of our marine environments.
