David Orr (East Renfrewshire) took a staggering four shot lead after the second day of the Bristol & London Open taking place at The Players Club. The Scot, who won here at The Players Club in this event last year, recorded a 68 in the second round – the best of the day – to finish with an amazing seven under par aggregate of 137.
His nearest rival was Matthew King (Toft Hotel), who lies in second place after returning a one under par second round score of 71, which combined with his first round 70 left him three under par for the tournament.
Third place was shared by current leader of the Order of Merit, Graham Rankin (Drumpellier), Bobby Young (Sandiway), Phil Worthington and the winner of the event at Morley Hayes, Oliver Whiteley (Sherwood Recruitment). These players lie one shot behind King with two under par aggregates.
Only one other player matched Orr’s second round score of 68. Australian Daniel Gaunt (Superior Designs) also returned a four under par score for the second round to leave him one under for the tournament and in joint seventh place.
The difficulty of the course was demonstrated by the fact that only twelve players managed to remain under par after two rounds.
Scores of 149 (+5) and better made the cut, and fifty-one players will go on to play a third and final round.
