April 9th, 2008

The Qualifying School for the 2008 PGA EuroPro Tour has begun, with over 400 players aiming to make it to the final stage of the EuroPro Tour Qualifying School next week.

Stoke by Nayland, Bedford Golf Club, The Players Club and Forest Pines are the venues for the first stage of Qualifying School, with the final stage taking place at Frilford Heath in Oxfordshire on April 16 to 18, which was won last year by Todd Nicholson (pictured). Updates on events at all courses will appear on the EuroPro Tour website.

The first Tour event is at Wensum Valley in Norfolk from April 30 to May 2, then the Tour moves to The Shire in Barnet, Collingtree Park in Northampton and Faithlegg in Ireland. Bovey Castle, Stoke by Nayland, Vilamoura in Portugal, Selsdon Park, Whittlebury Park and the East Sussex National are also all on the agenda for the Tour.

The Tour has added two extra bonuses for competitors for 2008 – the Peak Performance Player of the Month and the Birdies and Eagles Challenge.

Peak Performance – the official clothing sponsor of the Tour – sponsor the Player of the Month award, which will be selected by a PGA panel each month. The winner will receive £1000 voucher to spend on Peak Performance clothing at Harrods and a specially embroidered Supreme Jacket from their golf range. The five winners of the award from the Tour will battle it out at the end of the season in an 18-hole play-off with a prize pool of £10,000.

The Birdies and Eagles Challenge also has a £10,000 prize pool up for grabs for the players who score the most albatrosses, eagles and birdies. Its ten points for an albatross, five for an eagle and two for a birdie and the winner at the end of the Tour will scoop £5,000.

Danny Nickless, operations manager for the tour, said: “This year’s PGA EuroPro Tour promises to be the best yet. We have added some fantastic venues to the schedule and with the Peak Performance Player of the Month and the Birdies and Eagles Challenge there is even more motivation for the players to play their best golf on the Tour.”
