Pullan Snatches Victory

Pullan Snatches Victory

June 30th, 2008

Mark Pullan (ATP Advertising & Marketing) won the Owston Hall Trophy by one shot with a sensational thirteen under par total of 203.

In a thrilling final day of play, a fierce battled began between several players vying for the lead. Sam Pigott (West Malling) made the early move, creating a two shot gap between himself and the rest of the field, and looked set to become the first player to win two events this season, having won at Marriott Tudor Park last month. But he struggled in the strong wind on the back nine, opening the competition up once more as he dropped back into the pack.
Meanwhile, some great play by Australian player Daniel Gaunt (Superior Designs) resulted in four birdies and took him fourteen under par, making him the leader on the course.

But soon, Pullan crept closer with birdies on the twelfth and thirteenth to go to thirteen under – just one shot off the lead. He commented, “I just tried to play really steady. It was tough out there in the wind but I just stuck with it”.

Like Pigott, Gaunt ran into difficulties towards the end with bogeys on fifteen and seventeen, giving Pullan a real chance to take the title.

Then, on the eighteenth, Pullan looked to be in trouble when his ball went through the green. However, a great chip onto the green followed by a perfect up and down putt enabled him to save par and take the £10,000 first prize. He said, “It wasn’t an easy putt on the last but it was a really nice way to win!”.

He added, “I’m really happy to have won – and it’s about time too!”.

Gaunt eventually finished in second place with a twelve under par total of 204, with Pigott sharing third place with Lorne Kelly (Orion Group), Peter Whiteford (Wellsgreen), Tim Rice (Limerick) and local Yorkshireman Nick Ludwell (Selby). All players returned ten under par totals of 206.
