All those winter months training come to a head this week with the beginning of Q School with five courses taking centre stage over Wednesday and Thursday as 369 entrants attempt to make the cut for the Q School final qualifying at Frilford Heath later in April.
36 holes will be played over the two days on the first stage before either finding out their category or advancing on to the final stage of qualifying.
The two Par 73 courses at Studley Wood and Caversham Heath will see 84 and 81 entrants respectively. It’s a Par 72 for the 83 at Macdonald Portal and at Macdonald Cardrona. Donnington Grove’s 78 entrants take on a Par 72 also in Newbury.
Approximately*, 172 will make it through to the final round of Qualifying School at Frilford Heath from 16-18th April 2019.
Every player that enters Qualifying School will become a Member of the Tour for 2019 and will hold a category. The better an entrant performs at Qualifying School the better the Category. This allows any member to enter any tournament during the season regardless of how they perform at Qualifying School. The Qualifying School merely acts as a way of ranking all of the members which is important when the final field for a tournament is to be decided.
Every member will fall into one of the categories. On the closing date of the tournament, all entries will be ranked in Category order and the top 156 (for a max 156 field) will be entered into the tournament. All other entries will be placed on a reserve list, again in Category and ranking order.
*Numbers could be subject to change depending on entrants competing.
