The PGA Europro Tour Qualifying School Final took place at Saunton Golf Course in Devon from 8th – 11th April, with 240 players representing over ten different countries gathering to gain the best category ranking as possible for the forthcoming season.
The tournament was over 72 holes in four days, with the cut being made to the top 126 plus ties after 36 holes.
Despite the poor weather affecting much of the country, Saunton was treated to clear skies and dryness. However, for many players the dry conditions caused difficulty in controlling the ball on the hard ground, shown by the fact that only the winner, Ryan Fenwick (Bognor Regis), managed to record a below par score for the tournament. Fenwick led from the outset, carding an opening score of 67 (-4), and successfully held on to his lead until the end, finishing three-under-par for the tournament, three shots clear of Scotland’s Marc Warren and Ireland’s Paddy Gribben who were tied in second place. Fenwick picked up a cheque for £2,400 as well as gaining a Category 5 ranking for the 2003 season.
