James Ruth holds a two-shot lead ahead of the final round of the Sweetspot Classic at Longhirst Hall Golf Club in Northumberland.
Just four players go into the final round under par and the cut has been made at its highest point of the season, seven over par, after a cold and wet second round.

Winds had dropped slightly after a blustery start on Thursday but a damp afternoon didn’t help those in need of a low score. Trailing Ruth by two shots in second place is Scotsman Shaun McAllister. His compatriot Duncan Stewart is two under par while England’s Dale Whitnell is one shot below par after of Saturday’s final round.
Ruth (St Mellion International) was three strokes under par after a first-round 67, and made birdies with a three at 11 and a four at 16 to complete his second round with an unblemished card. He signed for a 68 on the par-70 course and will take a two-shot advantage into the third and final round.
McAllister (Craigielaw Golf Club) made six birdies on his way to a second-round 65, five under par. Birdies at one, three, five and seven got him off to a great start, but he was pegged back with a bogey at eight.
On the back nine birdies at 10 and 11 took him to five under and a bogey at 15 was quickly cancelled out with a birdie four at 16. He shot two-over-par in his opening round and trails Ruth by two.
Stewart (Grantown on Spey) was four over par after 18 holes and held the overnight lead but suffered with three bogeys and just one birdie in his second round.
He began with a bogey five at the first and made five at 12, another par four to drop to two under par. He dropped further behind with a bogey at the par-three 15th but returned to two under with a birdie four the following hole.
Whitnell (Five Lakes) is one under after rounds of 71 and 68 and Levi Desmond (Belton Woods) and James Maw (Abbeydale Golf Club) share fifth place on level par.
A cut to the leading 50 players plus ties has now been made, with all those with 36-hole scores of seven over par or better (147) proceeding to play Saturday’s final round.
