The Ladbrokescasino.com Masters in La Cala final event on the regular Ivobank PGA EuroPro Tour begins on Tuesday 23 September and it is set to be a tense scramble for the top 60 places to go to Les Bordes in France for the Tour Championships.
After 12 events on the Tour this year, Malaga will be a fitting venue to finalise the top 60 ahead of the Tour finale in France where £20,000 goes to the winner on the course voted the second best in Europe. Plenty to play for in Spain then, as the players tackle the Campo Asia course La Cala resort.
Sport is often about small margins and this year’s keenly contested Tour is a case in point with just £11.49 separating 60th and 61st places in the Order of Merit. Looking at the order of merit standings, there’s no reason why the next 40 players outside the top 60 spots cannot make a late burst to make it to France – click here to view the view the full standings.Noel Fox (MMI – £26,647.48) tops the order of merit from Dale Marmion (Eaton – £26,036.65) but it’s the slenderest of margins, especially with Marmion in good form after a win and second place finish in August. Fox’s compatriot Alan Murray (Greystones GC – £24,040.39) is in third spot ahead of Lloyd Kennedy (Chelmsford GC – £20,652.45) and the winner of the last event at Five Lakes, Matthew Ford (Marriott Tudor Park – £17,937.76). Nine of the top ten will be in action in Spain and the EuroPro Tour site will have constant updates as the battle to make the Tour Championships comes to an exciting conclusion in the sun.
