SIMON HURD proved that consistency is the name of the game as he won The Peugeot International at Morley Hayes with three successive rounds of 67.
Hurd, attached to Portugese club Pinheros Altos, picked up his first professional win for 18 months as he pocketed the £10,000 first prize cheque at the Morley Hayes course in Derbyshire on Friday.
With six birdies and only one bogey in his final round, Hurd held off Colin Mitchell by a single stroke to finish on 15-under-par (201) for the tournament.
“I’ve been working hard with a mind coach lately and it’s helped me to become braver and keep my head steady all the way around, he revealed.
“I had a 20 foot putt to win the tournament and I called at it to go in – I was delighted when it did!
“Normally I play on the Challenge Tour but I had a week off and the standard on the EuroPro Tour is so high I wanted to play on it – it was a tough field and I’m pleased I was able to rediscover my top level form.
Mitchell (A Proctor Group/Rustington GC) fired six birdies and a bogey in his final round, also of 67, to finish in outright second place whilst Order of Merit leader Lee Slattery’s fine season continued with a share of third alongside Tim Rice (Limerick), also a winner on the tour this season.
Slattery didn’t drop a shot in his final two rounds, but an opening day 71 proved his undoing, whilst Rice’s final round of four bogeys undid the hard work he put in for eight birdies.
