The PREM Group Irish Masters: Preview

August 24th, 2018

The PGA EuroPro Tour resumes next week (Wednesday, 29thAugust) with the PREM Group Irish Masters at Tulfarris Hotel and Golf Resort, Wicklow.

It will mark the first of three years that the EuroPro Tour will be hosted at the venue, set in the picturesque Ancient East of Ireland across Blessington Lakes and near the Wicklow Mountains.

The penultimate regular event in the Tour’s 15 venue schedule, golfers are bidding not only for the crucial five Challenge Tour cards on offer but also a place at the Tour Championship at Desert Springs Resort, Spain.

The 2018 season has seen eleven different Champions named so far, with Mark Young and Dave Coupland both winning two events each, reaching the halfway point of the coveted £250,000 four-win bonus on offer this year.

In-form Coupland (Woodhall Spa Golf Club) will be looking to move to three wins when the Tour heads to Tulfarris, and with five top ten finishes in his last six starts including two wins, all eyes will be on the Boston golfer to match Chris Lloyd’s tally of three wins last season.

Limerick’s Tim Rice, a winner at the Tour’s last event will be hoping to turn the home field advantage to his favour as he bids to reach the top five spots, currently 13thand just £3,000 off the pace a good performance next week could see the Irishman’s ambitions turn to reality.

Irish youngster Luke Donnelly (Mount Juliet Golf Club) had his best finish to date with a top twenty at the FORE Business Championship last week. If the 21-year-old can replicate his efforts or push on and make his first top ten of the season it could bring him to within touching distance of the Tour Championship spots with one event left to play.

Jim Murphy, CEO of PREM Group said: “We are proud to be the title sponsors of The PREM Group Irish Masters at Tulfarris Hotel and Golf Resort Hotel this year and are delighted to announce that we have completed a two-year deal with the Euro Pro Tour for Tulfarris to continue to be the host venue for a further two years, until 2020.

“We have also just signed Simon Thornton as the Tulfarris Hotel and Golf Resort touring professional until the end of 2019. Simon is a wonderful ambassador for Tulfarris and we are very pleased with our association with him.

“To have such a major golfing event coming here is a great coup for the golf club and for the area. It’s going to be an incredible, international showcase opportunity for Ireland, Wicklow and for Tulfarris.”

A two-hour highlights package from each event is broadcast on Sky Sports Golf, and on 98 networks around the world reaching 400 million homes. In addition, every event is available to watch on demand in high definition on YouTube.
