The Venues That Made the 2022 PGA EuroPro Tour – and why you Should Play Them Part 2

October 27th, 2022

The PGA EuroPro Tour has visited some fantastic venues during the 2022 season.

We would like to thank all 16 for producing a marvellous test and contributing to the development of the next generation of professional golfer.

This is the second part detailing some of the locations we went to this year – you can access part one here.

9.) Slaley Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

Location: Northumberland

Green Fee Hunting/Priestman: £44/£24

Slaley Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort is part of The QHotels Collection and the golfing facilities on offer are truly magnificent. With a large driving range and several putting greens, this hotel can provide outstanding practice facilities to compliment your stay. There are also two golf courses located on-site, both exuding tremendous quality. The Hunting Course is the preferred of the two and its fantastic routing will ask many difficult questions of a golfer’s game. The Priestman is a brilliant alternative that features sweeping views of Slaley’s enviable surroundings.

Interesting Fact: Slaley Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort hosted an Asian Tour event in 2022.

10.) Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate

Location: Sussex

Green Fee Week/Weekend: £40/£45

Mannings Heath is neatly tucked into the countryside, where it homes a fantastic golf course in the Waterfall routing. The course produced low scores during competition week and its modest length of 6,684 yards means that it can be attacked frequently throughout the round. Couple in the fact that it also operates as a winery, and this could be an ideal location for a couples’ golfing retreat. There’s also a shorter, 9-hole loop available that acts as the perfect introductory to golf for any newcomers to the sport.

Interesting Fact: James Allan secured his Challenge Tour card after winning at Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate.

11.) Machynys Peninsula Golf Club

Location: Llanelli

Green Fee Week/Weekend: £35/£45

The green fee weekend booking of £45 is beyond an absolute steal. Of all the courses the PGA EuroPro Tour visited this year, perhaps Machynys Peninsula Golf Club was one of the greatest. We experienced the course during the peak of summer with warm days dominating the week, but the golf course on offer is of the highest standard. If we also consider that the clubhouse has received an injection of investment – in addition to the spa and health club providing alternative entertainment – then Machynys Peninsula is a highly impressive venue.

Interesting Fact: Machynys Peninsula Golf Club is the youngest course to ever been awarded an R&A championship.

Machynys Peninsula is the first Nicklaus-designed course in Wales

12.) Clandeboye Golf Club

Location: Bangor, Newtownards

Green Fee Dufferin/Ava: £80/£60

Clandeboye Golf Club are fortunate to possess two championship-standard golf courses, with both loops holding the means to accommodate a wide range of visitor. Whilst the Dufferin is titled the championship routing at Clandeboye, the Ava is a seriously strong asset to have within their ranks. Both loops feature otherworldly views of the local landscape and the site itself is filled with rich history. If you’re looking for a friendly experience and members who are waiting to welcome you with open arms, then Clandeboye Golf Club is an absolute must play.

Interesting Fact: Clandeboye Golf Club is the home of DP World Tour winner Jonny Caldwell.

13.) Spey Valley Golf Club

Location: Aviemore

Green Fee: £35

Spey Valley’s environment could have been handcrafted for the sport of golf. No matter where you stand, there are surreal vistas that soften the blow of that careless six on the previous hole. Every ardent golf fan should experience Spey Valley’s raw beauty – which coincidentally packs an almighty punch if you veer even slightly off line. A superb test of golf, Spey Valley’s intricate routing is what might attract you there, but the serene views of Northern Scotland is what will bring you back.

Interesting Fact: Brooks Koepka shot and currently owns the course record at Spey Valley following a visit from the Challenge Tour in 2013.

Spey Valley’s raw beauty must be seen

14.) Leven Links Golf Course

Location: Leven

Green Fee: £60

A trip to Leven Links is an absolute must if you’re someone who cares deeply about the history and roots of this fantastic sport. Not only can Leven Links offer an outstanding golfing experience in the form of a links, but its clubhouse is brimmed with historical facts, images and trophies that will undoubtedly outlive all of us! Golf has allegedly been played at Leven since 1820, with the earliest records dating back to 1846. For anyone whose miss is right, you’ll have a nice opening tee shot awaiting you at Leven Links!

Interesting Fact: Leven Links is one of the very oldest pieces of golfing land anywhere in the world!

15.) Clevedon Golf Club

Location: Clevedon

Green Fee Week/Weekend: £60/£70

Clevedon Golf Club is the home of John E. Morgan and it is a frontrunner for one of the best courses to be situated in the West of England. The club has recently celebrated its 125th anniversary and they are showing no signs of slowing down. There are a collection of holes that will leave a lasting impression, with the signature 8th requiring a tee shot from more than 200 feet above the fairway! Whilst they can’t offer a traditional driving range, there is a narrow practice area for you to dial in those wedges – and you can warm up efficiently before your round in one of two practice nets.

Interesting Fact: J.H. Taylor laid the original design of Clevedon Golf Club, which remained largely untouched until the 1990s.

16.) Lough Erne Resort

Location: Enniskillen

Green Fee: £40 – £100

Lough Erne Resort is a 5* venue that exudes quality from every inch of the premises. Originally an 18-hole golf club called Castle Hume, the turn of the millennium saw a willingness to build upon the land and introduce a second golf course. Sir Nick Faldo is responsible for the Faldo Course and the final outcome is a complete masterpiece. Seemingly, every hole is worthy of signature status and its routing has been highly celebrated by everyone who has had the honour of experiencing the layout. The PGA EuroPro Tour is used to delivering first-class Tour Championship venues, but Lough Erne Resort is in a different class of its own.

We would like to thank all 16 golf clubs that have hosted a PGA EuroPro Tour event this season – we could not have delivered the schedule without you!
