Three tied for the lead at Frilford Heath

Nicholas Poppleton, James Frazer, and Bradley Moore lead The Championship in support of Medecins St Frontiere at Frilford Heath Golf Club after day one.


Poppleton and Moore of Wath Golf Club and Kedleston Park Golf Club respectively shot opening bogey-free rounds of 65 (-7) to lead by one going into the second day of play in Oxfordshire tomorrow.

Frazer (Machynys Peninsula), who tied for Pro-Am victory yesterday with Poppleton put together four birdies on the spin as part of his round to go tied for the lead.

Ashton Turner (Kenwick Park Golf Club), Jack South (Hagley Golf Club/Taymar Homes), John Parry (Harrogate Golf Club), James Webber (The Rayleigh Club), Will Enefer (Retail Furniture Ltd) and Frilford Heath’s amateur Olly Huggins are all tied for second after opening rounds of 66 (-6).

One-shot back from Huggins and the aforementioned is Robert Harrhy (Frilford Heath Golf Club), Sam De’Ath (Universal Classic Cars), Ben Ferguson (The Vines), Robert Burlison (Q School 2019 winner & Enville Golf Club), Billy Hemstock (Roehampton Club), and Liam Murray (The LM Club & Ugolf) who all went around in five-under. 

Several players are back on four-under tied for sixteenth including Daniel Jennevret, Neil O’Briain, Max Jordan (Langley Park Golf Club), Matthew Hogg (Rushcliffe Golf Club), Daniel Young (Kingsbarns Pro Academy), Michael Saunders (Dartford Golf Club), George Baylis (Castle Royle GC&CC) and Ryan Harmer (Brokenhurst Manor Golf Club)

It was a scorcher of a first day on the blue course but condition are expected to turn on day two with heavy downpours across the board. 


The cut is made to the fifty leading players plus tied before the final round of The Championship in support of MSF on Thursday.
