THREE players shared the lead after the opening day of The Ufford Park Classic at Woodbridge in Suffolk.
Barry Templeton (The Players Club), Australian Jason Daws and Ryan Fenwick (Bognor Regis) all shot five-under-par rounds of 65 to split top spot on a day which began brightly before overcast conditions set in.
Templeton birdied four of the first six holes and picked up three more shots on the back nine to compensate for two bogeys whilst Fenwick recorded seven birdies and two bogeys to card the same score.
Daws, who is in the UK to play in The Dunhill Masters, an event he qualified for by finishing tenth on the Asian Tour money list, picked up six birdies and a bogey.
The chasing group is headed by five players, all a shot behind on 66 (four-under-par).
Graeme Clark (Special Steel Group/Doncaster) hit four birdies in his first eight holes and then a further three over the rest of his round but also picked up three bogeys, whilst Michael Welch (Hawkstone Park) birdied the last four holes after having earlier hit three birdies and three bogeys.
Jack Doherty (Vale of Glamorgan), Inder Van Weerelt (Netherlands) and David Jones (City of Derry) all picked up four shots as well to share second place and another star of the day was 17 year-old amateur Jamie Abbott, playing on his home course, who shot a level par round of 70.
