LOW SCORING was the order of the day for the opening round of the PokerMillion.com European Classic at the Marriott Tudor Park in Maidstone, Kent.
The second event of the 2004 PGA EuroPro Tour season offers a total prize fund of £40,000 with £10,000 to the winner, and Brandhall golfer David Walker leads the way after the first of three days play.
Walker shot an impressive round of 64 which included a front nine score of 29 and a level-par back nine.
And he is one shot clear of a chasing pack of eight which includes David Close (Hornsea), the winner of the opening event of the season at Whitekirk GC in East Lothian last week, and Sam Pigott of West Malling, who won the corresponding event last year.
In total, there are 69 players under par after a day in which the odd shower broke through the cloud cover despite sunny spells in the ‘Garden of England’.
“It’s a great way for me to start the season, said Walker. “I missed the first event of the season with a stomach bug so this was my first competitive round and it’s given me a lot of confidence.”
Marriott Hotels are sponsoring three events on this season’s PGA EuroPro Tour, offering a £10,000 prize bonus for the golfer who fares best in the three events combined.
