Daniel Wardrop leads the WSL Open by one shot at the end of the first 18 holes at Collingtree Park Golf Club in Northampton.
Wardrop (Didsbury Golf Club) signed for an eight-under-par first round 64 but Darren Wright (Rowlands Castle Golf Club) is right behind him after shooting 65.

Starting his round at the 10th, Wardrop made birdies at 14, 16 and 17 before making further inroads on his back nine. A birdie three at the second was followed by a par and his momentum continued to build with further birdies at four and five.
His best score of the day came at the sixth where he took just two shots to negotiate the 367-yard par four and register an eagle before completing his final three holes to par and give himself a one-shot overnight lead.
Wright made seven birdies in a bogey-free round to complete his opening 18 holes with a score of 65. His first five birdies came on the front nine and he leapfrogged the five golfers on six under by breaking par at 17 and 18.
Among those tied for third is James Webber (Regiment Way Golf Club), who would have held a share of the lead if he hadn’t taken seven shots to negotiate the par-five 18th.
James Hepworth (Ilkley Golf Club) started his round on the 10th tee and carded six birdies before making up for two bogeys with an eagle three at the ninth, his final hole. Paul Doherty (Vale Hotel), Graham Benson (Leighton Buzzard Golf Club) and Michael McGeady (McCambridge Duffy) also achieved rounds of 66 to conclude the day two shots off the lead.
Miles Collins (Stoke by Nayland) and Philip Ridden (City of Newcastle Golf Club) are tied for eighth, three shots off the lead, and eight players are four shots behind Wardrop.
