The 888poker.com PGA EuroPro Tour Championship takes place on the Marquess’ Course at Woburn next week.
It is set to be a gripping event with three of the five Challenge Tour cards still up for grabs. Ahead of the event we had our usual chat with the course Head Professional and below is Luther Blacklock’s ‘Inside Track’ on Woburn’s Marquess’ Course.
Course Condition
“The greens are superb, they have been rolling very well. The fairways are fine as most of the course is on sand. It is playing at its full length at the moment.â€
Good Score
“I would say anything below 70 is a really good score on the Marquess’ course at the moment.â€
Par Breakers
“The two par fives on the front nine are great birdie opportunities. They are the second and the seventh.â€
Card Wreckers
“I would say the 18th, which is one of the strongest finishing holes around. It played the toughest when the European Tour was here. The par-four third and the 11th, a par five, are also tough holes. The 15th is another hole where you would take par.â€
Hazards
“The greens are very subtle. It isn’t enough to just be on the green, you need to be on the right quarter of the green if you want to make a birdie.â€
Who It Suits
“I would have said the guys that drive well and the guys who putt well will do the best on the Marquess’ Course.â€
Top Tip
“Get the ball in the right place on the greens. Make sure your approach shots land on the right parts of the greens. The greens are undulating and you have to be in the right part of the greens.â€
