Woburn: The Key Holes

Woburn: The Key Holes

November 10th, 2012

The PGA EuroPro Tour Championship takes place on the Marquess’ Course at Woburn Golf Club next week.

As with each event this season we have spoken to the head professional at the course and these are Luther Blacklock’s six ‘Key Holes’:

Par: 5 Yards: 506
“The green is reachable in two but it needs a slight draw off the tee to get the ball around the corner and a long iron or rescue club to the elevated green that is angled across you.”

Par: 4 Yards: 473
“Essentially you need a big tee shot off the back tees and a long second shot. The green gives a lot of movement from left to right.”

Par: 5 Yards: 538
“The seventh is a real birdie opportunity. It is a risk/reward hole with a split fairway. For the big hitters they can go down the right-hand side to get home in two or the more conservative players can take the three-shot route up the left and try and pitch and putt for the birdie.”

Par: 5 Yards: 579
“Eleven is a really great par five. It requires three good shots. The tee shot is heavily bunkered and the third shot is into a green which is elevated and angled slightly diagonally across the player.”

Par: 5 Yards: 575
“Fifteen is a big par five. The wind can be an issue and it needs three precise shots. You cannot afford an indifferent shot otherwise you aren’t going to make five.”

Par: 4 Yards: 459
“Eighteen proved the toughest hole when the European Tour played here. It is a long par four with two large undulations in the green and the ball can feed into the back bunker if you are not careful. It is a great hole.”
