George Woolgar fired a flawless round of 66 to take a two shot lead on the first day of the EuroPro Tour’s ABC Solutions UK Championship in Crewe on Wednesday.

The Englishman converted birdies at the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 8th, 12th and 13th at Wychwood Park Golf Club and kept bogies off his card in the six-under-par round.

Woolgar currently lies 42nd on the Order of Merit so will hope to climb the list by capitalising on his good start in the remaining rounds on Thursday and Friday.

Five players are in a group at four under: Englishmen James Westwood, Alex Belt, Paul Grannell, Paul Maddy and Trevor Jones.

And there are six more at three under, including Paul Reed, who won the last EuroPro Tour event in Ireland earlier this month. Reed had seven birdies today but also dropped shots on four holes.

Welshman Stuart Runcie had five birdies and two bogies in his round of 69.
