George Woolgar (Capitalservices/F Ball) holds a tender one-shot lead after the first round of the BGC British Masters took place at Lingfield Park on Wednesday.
Woolgar shot five under on the opening day of the event, the second of the 2012 888poker.com PGA EuroPro Tour. Birdies on four of the back nine helped propel the 26-year-old to the top of the leaderboard, one shot ahead of the three players tied for second.
Paul Grannell (Vale Royal Abbey), James Robinson (Southport & Ainsdale) and Daniel Brooks (Mill Hill) are right behind Woolgar on four under.
Brooks finished third in the Tour Order of Merit in 2009, earning his place on the Challenge Tour. With that Tour on a five-week break the London-based golfer returned to the PGA EuroPro Tour for this event and is in a strong position in Surrey.
Five players finished their round on three under with ten a further shot behind the lead. Scott Fallen would have been among the leaders after carding a four under but was disqualified after realising he had signed for the wrong score.
Motocaddy Masters winner Dan Seymour (Newbury Golf Club) hit two double bogeys and will need a strong second-round showing to make the cut after returning to the clubhouse four over.
